How to Edit Images with Flux Kontext

Three steps take you from a source photo to an edited result, without layers, masks, or a design suite.

Upload Your Image

Drag a JPG, PNG, or WebP file into the upload area, or click it to choose a file from your device. The preview confirms which photo the editor will work on, and you can replace it before sending any instruction. Keep the original under 10MB so the upload finishes quickly.

Chat with Your Image

Describe the change in ordinary language, such as "remove the background" or "make the light warmer." Start with one clear change, review the result, then send a follow-up if something needs adjusting. Short, specific instructions are easier to evaluate than a long list of unrelated edits.

Download & Share

Review the edited image beside the previous version and keep the result that works for you. Download the file to your device or start another edit from the same session. Your source image stays available, so you can return to an earlier direction without starting over.

Key Features of Flux Kontext Technology

A focused editor built around image-aware instructions, practical file support, and results you can download.

Image-Aware Editing

The model reads both your photo and your instruction, so a request about the background does not require you to describe the subject again.

Natural Language Control

Write the change the way you would explain it to a colleague. Layer names, blend modes, and selection tools are not part of the workflow.

Targeted Changes

Ask for a specific adjustment and compare the result with the source. Review each output before you rely on it.

Multiple Format Support

Work with JPG, PNG, and WebP files up to 10MB, then download the edited image for use in your own project.

Practical Transformations

Refresh product shots, adjust a portrait, or explore a new visual direction on images you own or have permission to use.

Fast Iteration

Keep the source and try another instruction when a result is close but not right. Processing time varies with the model and current load.

What Is Flux Kontext AI

Flux Kontext is an image editing model from Black Forest Labs. It takes two inputs: an existing picture and a written instruction. From those inputs it produces a new image that follows the instruction while keeping the rest of the scene as close to the source as it can. That is different from a text-to-image model, which starts with nothing but a description and invents the whole frame. The practical difference shows up when you want to keep a person's face, a product label, or the layout of a room. You do not have to rebuild those details in a prompt; you point at the change you want and let the model work from the photo you already have. The useful habit is to describe one clear change at a time. "Make the jacket dark green" gives the model a specific target. "Improve the whole photo" leaves too much room for interpretation. After each result, compare the new image with the source and decide whether to keep it or ask for another pass. KontextChat wraps this model in a chat interface: upload, type, review, download. The model does the visual edit; the site handles the session, the preview, and the file you take away. Model availability can change, so the AI Transparency Notice lists the model currently used for editing.

How Flux Kontext Compares to Other AI Photo Editors

Traditional editors such as Photoshop give you precise manual control through layers, masks, brushes, and adjustment panels. They are excellent when you need exact pixel work or a repeatable production file, but they assume you already know which tool to reach for. Flux Kontext takes a different route: you describe the outcome in words and review what comes back. That makes it quicker for a one-off change such as removing an object, changing a background, or shifting the mood of a photo, while a skilled editor still has the advantage on detailed retouching and precise typography. Text-to-image tools begin with a blank canvas and generate a new scene from a prompt. They are the right choice when no source photo exists. Flux Kontext is built around editing an image you already have, so it can preserve the subject, framing, and other details instead of inventing a replacement. The two approaches solve different jobs, and many workflows use both: generate a concept first, then edit the version that is closest to the final image. Browser-based editors add another distinction. A web tool such as KontextChat opens in a tab and keeps the steps short, while a desktop editor may offer deeper controls and local file handling. Neither is automatically better; the right choice depends on whether the task is a quick visual change or a controlled production job that needs a familiar professional toolchain.

Frequently Asked Questions

1

What is Flux Kontext and how does it power KontextChat?

Flux Kontext is an image editing model from Black Forest Labs that works from a source image plus a written instruction. Instead of rebuilding the whole picture from a prompt, it is designed to change a requested part while keeping the rest of the scene recognizable. Kontext is the model, KontextChat is our tool: we provide the upload, conversation, history, and download experience around it. You upload a photo, describe the change, and review the returned image. A useful instruction is specific and limited in scope, such as "change the background to a plain gray studio wall" or "make the jacket dark green." If the first result is close, send a follow-up instead of starting over. The current editing model and any fallback are listed in our AI Transparency Notice, because availability can change as we maintain the service. KontextChat is an independent third-party tool; we did not train the model and are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Black Forest Labs.

2

Do I need design experience to use KontextChat?

No design experience is required. Upload an image or describe a new one, then explain the result you want. Review the output and try again if it needs adjustment.

3

How quickly can I expect edits to be completed?

Processing time depends on the model, prompt, image size, and provider load. The interface shows a pending state while a request is being processed.

4

What file formats does KontextChat support?

KontextChat accepts JPG, PNG, and WebP images with a maximum file size of 10MB per image.

5

Is my data safe with KontextChat?

Images are sent over encrypted connections and stored in Cloudflare R2 so you can access your history. We do not use your images to train our own models. See the Privacy Policy for retention, deletion, and provider details.

6

Can I use KontextChat for commercial purposes?

You may use lawful results for personal or commercial purposes, subject to your rights in the input image, third-party rights, applicable law, and our Acceptable Use Policy.

7

Is Flux Kontext free to use?

The editor includes a free daily pool, so you can try image editing without buying credits first. When that pool is busy or used up, one-time credit packs are listed on the pricing page. The current packs are $4.99 for 200 credits, $9.99 for 600 credits, and $19.99 for 1,200 credits. Check the pricing page before checkout for the current amounts and included credits.

8

Can I use Flux Kontext with ComfyUI?

KontextChat is a browser-based tool, so you do not need to install ComfyUI or any local workflow; upload the image on the site and describe the change.
